Shift differential questions
Do night and weekend differentials stack?
It depends on your facility. Roughly half of US hospitals pay night + weekend on top of each other; the rest pay only the higher of the two. The calculator shows both scenarios so you can match your policy.
Is a shift differential included in overtime pay?
Under FLSA rules, differentials generally must be included in your regular rate when overtime is computed. If your overtime is calculated on base rate only, that's a red flag worth checking.
What's a typical night differential?
Most US hospitals pay $2.50–$6.00/hr extra for nights and $2.00–$5.00/hr for weekends. Holidays typically run 1.5× and can stack with differentials.
Does this work for travel nurses?
Yes — enter your taxable base rate and any stipend-adjusted differentials from your contract. Note that non-taxable stipends are handled separately.
